Orange Shirt Day

HRCE will be honouring Orange Shirt Day on September 30th. This is an opportunity for all staff and students to increase their awareness about the thousands of Indigenous children across Canada who were forced from their homes to attend residential schools.

Acknowledging this day provides an active invitation for our region to participate in reconciliation. Staff and students are encouraged to wear orange shirts on this day and we ask all schools to have a moment of silence, following the Mi’kmaq land acknowledgement after announcements.

As wearing pink has become an anti-bullying statement, our hope is that wearing orange on September 30th will be recognized as a commitment to reconciliation in honour of the children of residential schools.
